Overflowing

"For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks."
"For whatever is in your heart determines what you say."
"For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks."

Abundance, overflow, determination.

All of these translations means roughly the same thing. Garbage in, garbage out.

I quoted this verse today jokingly, ironically in a sarcastic, chastising manner. It would be less ironic to hear someone say that their best quality is humility. Ironically enough, nowhere in scripture does it say that scripture should be taken lightly, or that it should be the the punch line in a joke.

It says that whatever you are putting into your mind will be the thoughts that you actually speak.

"All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness." - 2 Timothy 3:16

Nowhere do I see "useful for joking around with your bodies" or "useful for joking around while still making a point in a crude manner."

I have always heard that honesty is the best policy. Why are we not confident enough to let God's word do the teaching and let us do the seeking? Seek this scripture that is useful for so much, and let it overflow. I am sure that every child at some point hears the best way to live this out:

"If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all"

Go and overflow.
